I have a 1980/2000/2002/// (I keep renewing different systems) 410 Commander.  I have gutted the interior and redone it, also gutted the engine room and replaced most systems there.  Next project:  12V wiring, which I suspect will be about a 317 beer operation.

I want to get the deck stripe (the wide stripe right below the hull/deck joint) repainted.  I'd like to do it in the original color.  Does anyone know where I might find a paint code?  I tried someone using some kind of laser light to match the cream part of the cream/blue, and they didn't come close.

Hi Bob,

Your best bet is probably to just pick the closest match you can get from the big paint manufacturers; Interlux, Zspar, Pettit, etc.  Custom paint mixing never seems to come out the same from can to can.  The color of your paint isn't the same as the original anyway due to 20 years of fading.

My preference is Interlux because it is good paint and widely available.  But there are lots of other manufacturers.  Use the color swatches they provide in their brochures.  You could also ask other Commander owners what they have been using.  Buy the smallest quantity you can get because the paint doesn't always look exactly like the swatch.  Once you've found a paint you like, record the name of the color and you will be able to get an exact color match for any future repaints.
