So, how's your boat builder been treating you? Let me tell you about my experience with the guys at Calyber Boatworks. In the summer of '05, i purchased a used '04 25' Calyber. The boat had a few cosmetic items that I wanted fixed before I would take delivery. Management at Calyber said to bring the boat to their yard, and they would take care of it. One week later, i took delivery of the boat. After a winter of hard fishing in S. Florida, I had a few more items that I wanted taken care of. Mostly stuff like nicks and scratches that you normally get while fishing. Additionally, the boat did not have lifting strakes. The previous owner requested that they not be installed. The guys at Calyber informed me that the ride and performance of the boat would increase with the installation of these lifting strakes. So, on my way back North, I dropped the boat off at their plant in Edenton, NC for the repairs, and lifting strake addition to be done. Two weeks later, the boat was ready to be picked up. In addition to the items I requested, they took it upon themselves to "go over" the boat and update anything that just didn't look right. To top it off, they put a fresh coat of bottom paint on the boat.
When I picked up the boat, it looked like it was fresh out of the showroom! Well, all this work comes with a cost, right? Nope, they wouldn't take a dime! Now I'm sure the cynics out there will cite the reason for that is the higher $$ you pay initially for a custom boat But I didn't buy the boat from them! I bought the boat from a boat broker in the outer banks, who has no connection with Calyber Boatworks! The guys at Calyber take immense pride in their boats, and want every one of their boats to look their absolute best. Can your builder say the same?
