I have a 2004 Fours Winns 288 Vista Cruiser.  I have replaced the throttle cables once.  The second set works better but still has "stiff" spots in moving the throttles to or from full throttle.  This is especially aggravating when one is docking in a new environ.

Anyone have or had similar problems?

Yes, have your dealer call Volvo tech and ask about shimming the cable attachemnt lever on the outdrive.  My dealer did that per Volvo's recommendation and it helped.

I have a 268 FW cruiser also -- The throttle cable is not really the problem -- The transmission OD cable is really the culpert -- I just had mine replaced and shifting and throttle is once again finget tips -- Good luck --

When replacing cables on your volvo products do your self a favor and get the volvo exact cable thery are night and day compared to the teleflex cable use by four winns. You'll be so happy you did

I have the same FourWinns and just had the shift cable replaced because it took brute force to shift -- My mechanic used the factory parts and it is now finger tip once again -- He says the corrosion just gets to it, so you can get used to about three years of use until next time -- Happy boating --

The volvo exact cables will last much longer than the factory supplied teleflex cables. The cable itself "inside the jacket " on a teleflex is a s.s. core where a exact cable is a cable type core with a coating for imporoved throttle and shift feel and also provides longer cable life
