I'm wanting to move up from our Sea Ray 340 Sedan to a Silverton 42C. Any pros or cons?

Complete differnt boat from the Searay. I own a 2003 42C and have been as far as the Turk and Cacois Island with her. currently she is in Portsmouth VA. in dry dock.

The week we flew out to Florida to test drive a few boats after selling our old boat in San Diego I test drove a 1996 45' Hatteras and the 42C Silvterton in the Gulfstream the same day in rough southerly wind conditions beating against a northerly flow of the gulfstream. I was preparred to purchase the Hatteras in my mind before operating both boats. The Silverton cost a little more by the way.

Both boats did the same thing, the Silverton was a little worse in beam sea conditions as its a little lighter. Further the Silverton used the newer CAT engines and would burn far less fuel than Detroits. Since we use our boat in long distance cruises, mostly sportfishing, I figured I would try the Silverton. Its a much lighter type of boat than I have ever owned before, but I have sure learned to give respect to her considering some of the conditions she has been put through

In a blow off Rum Cay in the southern Bahamas I was the only boat that made it to Georgetown leaving several larger Hatteras and a Dave Smith custom behind.  I have put over 1500 ocean miles on my boat in the last year and been through 2 hurricances (Katrina and Wilma) with no major failures or breakdowns.  I'm not trying to show off, nor do I gain any benifit from Silverton. I would be happy to send pics of mods I have done. I live in Ca. and use my boat in the East Coast and Bahamas/ Turk Islands.  We have been to the USVI but I feel the fishing is better east of the Bahamas.

I should disclose that I owned a boatyard in Northern Ca. for 15 years and have been a marine surveyor for that past 10 years.  Including working for Boat US claims.

Just curious.  Are you the Bill Cosbie who's dad owned Bethel Island Boat Sales?  I saw you post and just thought I would ask.  I purchased a boat years back from him and his wife.  Nice folks.

I also saw the website Bill Cosbie USMC.  Is he related to you?

Thanks

Chris
