Hello Ya'll, long time, no see. sorry, picked up a fiew side jobs, havnt been to see my girl since the day i put the table in. still floating at the marina. my buddy's trailer is "in use" by his boss, so i havnt been able to bring her home.  Still no bites brom buyers. had a fiew lookers but they dont want to spend any money. I been telling them 4G's still wont sell. I even let someonr stay on her for a week to see if he really liked her (he did pay 1 month slip fee!). even he backed out because i wont take monthly payments. Wow, things are tough! even though fuel is down to $1.89, people are not spending. Oh well, gota keep pushing. enough about me.

diver, great coverage about the re-head. I think you need your own show! John Griviscus has nothing on you! my techs and i are waiting for part II

boatman, the boat show looked cool! i too used to run pa for local bands (late 80's, throught the 90's) what a blast. alot of big names came from the piedmont of NC. swamp buggies is something i always wanted to see. nothing coole like that around here in n.c., he--, we cant even decide on who we voted for. well, keep those mowers going!

well, heavy, cat, diver, boatman, dewy, swaneeBill, and those not mentioned, Have a good weekend!

Floater!

Sorry the boat has not sold as of yet! No tell in what is down the road these  as it seems we have lost our  rudder!UGH Seems like America has no values any more>
Well I have been busy as I went to Maryland and brought back the 38 footer and now have it in my side yard. Been busy unloading some good stuff and some junk. Looks like the boat had several owners lately. Guess all decided to much work for them so I guess I will Have to GIT Her DONE!!
I will send Tom some shots and he can post them if he would please do that? Thanks in advance. See Ya, Bill

Hi Captain Heavy and rest of you guys:
Well looks like I am in the boat business in a big way as I have 3 now and like Floater need to sell 1 or 2.
THe 38 is a 1967 Chris Craft Sedan model, which was powered by 427 Fords At 300 HP each. The previous owner took the engines out of the boat and left the running gear. He wanted the engines for street use as they will bore them for side oilers.
He was going to replace them with 390's which is also a Big Block just 40HP less and less tourque.
Any way the boat was in Marylland 700 miles from Tennessee where I live in Winchester.I hired a local transported and went up earlier and removed the fly bridge for transport. I did the escort work on the trip which save about 1500.00.It cost 4 times what I paid for the boat to get it hauled so now I am doing nothing to it except labor intense work as No Funds!!Maybe I will sell one of the others in the spring. As you all know everything about a boat cost lots.I willl have about 125 pieces of chrome work to be done so that will be a big expense also. I sent 5 pieces off to see about how the cost would be so in a couple of weeks I can figure what it will cost for that. I also need 2500.00 of teak for the toe rails, etc.
More later,Bill

SwanneeBill, about the teak, keep an eye on the "lumber liquidators" flooring wholesalers website, often they will have 5/4 tead decking along with ipe for a great cost! i have seen it as low as $2.75 a board foot!

SwanneeBill, goto www.lumberliquidators.com they carry mostly flooring. type in "teak" in their serch. sometomes one of the stores will have the 5/4 decking. you can also get the finished or unfinished 3/4 x 3.5 flooring for less than $3.00sf, not bad at all. the tongue can be cut off and used as boards or one nice cockpit floor installed for pretty cheap. i buy the teak flooring and cut into boards for small outdoor projects. i believe there is a warehouse close to you. ours is in charlotte, 30 minutes from me! well, good luck and we are ready for some pix!

floater!

OMG SwanneeBill, thats alot of gellcoat! what did Mrs Swannee think?  well, iit turns out as good as the 280, me and mrs floater will buy it to live in! looks like it will be alot of fun, i always wanted to do a complete update on a large boat interior. britework, walls, flooring, appliances, everything. in a past lakeland boating magazine, a couple did that on an old connie, when that were complete, it was as elegant as an old trumpy with the modern touches as a new sunseeker. ever since i saw that ive been obsessed with the idea. after toying with the floater, i really want to do it. i would love to pick up and move to the coast and find a job doing that, but wife wont move far from the monster-in-law. so, maybe in the future.

well, SwanneeBill, good luck! i cant wait to see W.I.P. pix as the project progresses!

Floater!

Go Carolina Panthers! 7/2

Hey Floater: Glad to hear from you!I hope to make the old girl sea worthy again your right lots of gelcoat but guess that is what it will get as I really don't like paint that well and I did learn a few things about gelcoatin on the 280. I need to sell it and a 23 I have but as you well know the brakes are on boat sales.Repower will be the biggest expenseI have the tranny's and the former owner is going to sell me all the marine parts off the engines and 2 390's that he was going to build and put in the boat. so I will have to rebuild the engines however the 427's were probablt tired and the boat hasn't been taken care of in a long time. If it wasn't Chris Craft it would probably be in the graveyard by now.the hull is sloid and not beat up andtoe rails will have to be replaced. That is a big one as the toe rail is TEAK. I have lots of time so I will find some sometime. Seeya,Bill

HI Heavy,Boatman,Floater and rest of the group:
The beam of the boat is 13' and 38 long with out the swim platform with that she is a 40'. Lots of work to do for sure!Te previous owner has agreed to sell me the marine parts and 2 390 engines for rebuild that he was planning on installing in the boat. I think that will be the cheapest way for me to go.THat along with the ton of re chrome work and toe rails  will be the biggest expense and 2 marine airs. Old fridg was rusted out and will need new vac flush system.I can handle the labor as I do it all including upholstery,Gelcoating, etc, sanding too!!! HA SEE YA,BILL
