Production Notes:
They were originally developed and built by Marshall Boat in Santa Ana, CA; Marshall sold the rights to Wellcraft, who built them from 1982-1986. Marshall repurchased the operation from Wellcraft and became California Yachts in 1987. Marshall/California was then purchased by Carver Yachts in 1987. Jule Marshall, with sons Steve and Gil, founded Navigator Yachts in Perris CA. in 1988 Carver built Californians from 1987-1991. Genmar purchased Carver in 1991 and terminated production of the Californian line. Gil Marshall, still a principal in Navigator Yachts with brother Steve, reincarnated California Yachts in 1997 in Perris, CA. The current phone number we have for them is 951-657-2117.

Over the years, Californians have been built under four USCG issued manufacturer Identification Codes:

JCM – Marshall

WEL - Wellcraft

JCM - Marshall (again)

EPY - California Yachts

One of those codes would be used as the first three characters of the Hull Identification Numbers (HIN) of each Californian hull and would identify the builder at that time. To our knowledge, there is no definitive source of production history data, like how many of each model were built and/or by which builder.
