Hello All, This is my first time out here. I have been lurking around and reading some of the posts and finally decided to join up. I am in the process of looking for my first boat and am in love with the Gibson. We searched and searched and finally found the perfect vessel for us - a 2000 41' Gibson Sport, low hours on the engines and jenny. Put money down, got the mechanic out for compression tests (all fine), and got the bottom cleaned. Then came the survey. The surveyor didn't like the Gibsons but couldn't find much wrong with it - that is until we hit the engine compartment. He found stringer and transom rot. Needless to say - we had to stop the survey and walk away. Repair was too costly for this novice. In the meantime, the seller made arrangements to have the repairs done. After all this - my question - Are stringers and transoms trustworthy after repairs are made? The Gibson rep was coming out to do the estimate and then arrange the repairs. Should I still walk away from the boat?
