Hi I NEED ADVICE

I am a complete raw beginner looking to buy his first boat. I am interested in a Thompson Daytona 270. Somneone told me that they are not very well built and poor performance in rougher water.

I will be using it in the Great Lakes so the water can be roughr.

Does anyone have any advice or experience as to whether or not the 270 Daytona would be good. The boat is a 1989 by the way.

i have a st. tropez 310. we use it in the Gulf around Tampa Fl, the only issue with ride whatsoever that i have, would be: ... on certain days, if the wind is blowing,(like yesterday) this boat tends to send ALOT of water up over the bow and directly into your face. if you're blasting through heavier choppy stuff.

i have seen/read about some sort of glue-on rails that help this...

otherwise, this is a good handling heavy boat with a nice deep-v at the stern. it gets out of the water very quickly and cuts through the chop nicely.

let me just add that you should have the boat checked out thoroughly. "surveyed"

they are all going to have some problems at that age but just make sure there are no major issues at least. a professional will know what to look for on that boat. especially up there where they are a bit more common.

Thompson had a couple years of cracking hulls. something in the mold process i think. the boat is an 89.....if it hasn't cracked yet.....probably aint gonna! plus, most of that happened when the boats were still new and under warranty.

one of these with no big issues...... are usually a real fair value for the money.
