Hi Tim, welcome to the forum.  Try posting this up in the Catalina forum...a big bunch of extremely knowledgable skippers over there and chances are one of them can answer your question.  When I bought my 1985 280, the motor had just been replaced with a Mercruiser Magnum 5.7L/350 and it has the center riser manifolds so I do not know what is entailed in making the swap, but I am sure it wont be too difficult.

Tom

Tim340,

Great question!

The reason is there's little room under the engine hatch for a aft riser, let alone a center riser. To make the driveline angle needed to penetrates the hull aft, the engine angles up, going forward. The center portion of the manifold is too close to clear the hatch- there's little clearence. Having a flat, uninterupted cockpit sole was what CC was going for here.

best, diver
