Hello.  I have a 1978 40 feet aft cabin motor yacht.  I've been a live-aboard in Philadelphia for nearly 11 years.  Great boat for both living and cruising.

I also live in the Philadelphia area (suburbs) but, on land in a house.  I have thought about becoming a live aboard but, wonder how big a lifestyle transition it would be.

What was the hardest thing to get used to when you first decided to live aboard full time?  How are the Philly winters when living onboard a boat?  Assume you are on the Delaware?  What is the yearly costs (dockage, maintenance, insurance, heat, AC, city taxes(?) etc.) for your 40' Pacemeker?

Paul, living aboard is wonderful.  I have 9 months of perfection and 3 months of adjustment.  I pay monthly $403 for my slip for year round.  Electricity is 13 cents a kilowatt/hour.  My insurance is through BoatUS and depends on the value of one's boat; my annual premium is $1,021.  This marina is year-round.  Water is included.  No land-line telephone.  Cable is available for a fee.  Winter on the river is very similar to land.  It is cold.  I use propane and electricity to keep me and the boat comfortable in the Wintertime.
