Hi all,

We are from near Spartanburg, SC.

We have just purchased a 1986 260 aft cabin.

Got a great deal and the boat looks great.

Has a 5.7 mercruiser w/Alpha 1 drive. Been going over the boat and inspecting everything closely, and it looks like a well maintained boat.

Stringers are sound and solid. Bilge is clean.

Some things I want to add before next season:

1. Hot water heater.

2. Full canvas for the back.

3. pressurized water system.

4. underwater LEDs

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

A couple of questions...

What brand head is in my boat? I am sure it is original, but havent found any nameplate or identification.

I got 3 Stainless props with the boat a 15, 17, and 21 pitch. Gonna be cruising a lot and was wondering if there were other wellcraft owners that had any Idea about what performance I should expect with these props. I believe the 17 is on it now.

Hello from Central Florida, I too am a new member here.

Sounds like you have some great projects getting under way. We did a re fit on a 23 W/A Excel a couple of years ago. We added an outboard bracket with swim platform, moving the outboard back 30 inches. As well as adding a windlass, new electronics, a built in head, and under water lights. Too much other "stuff" to keep making a list, but you get the idea. Once you start it's hard to stop making it "Just Right", but that's part of the fun of having a boat isn't it?

Anyway, check out www.coastalnightlights.com  they make some good products at good prices. We added the green under water L.E.D. single lights to our boat, and everyone who see's them says they look great.

You can see pictures of our re fit on www.activeboating.com, sign up for free and add me "stan" as a friend to see the pictures.

Hope this helps get you started, good luck and have fun.

Hello and welcome to the Forum.

I also own Wellcraft 260 aft with Alpha-1 drive for about 8yrs.
If you need any help with anything let me know I have useful knowledge of the 260.

Our first real trip proved to be a flop due to the weather.

After towing 240 miles, we finally got to launch after a couple of mechanical issues to be recconed with, but nothing serious. (helm trim switch, shift interrupter switch, both of which decided to go south during the torrential rains we were getting on monday.

We cut the trip short because we could see that there was no relief in sight from the rains. The trip to Charleston from home was uneventful, and the trailer pulled like a dream with new bearings, calipers, and brakes.

Once home a good dousing with salt-Away and a spraydown of the trailer (in the rain once again) then the sun comes out, of course.

All in all, was a good experience for the first real trip. Discovered that the boat even tho says it sleeps 6, means just that. "Sleeps" is the magic word. 4 adults stuck in the cabin for a few hours gets old. Good thing we brought our poker change!

Now on to the projects, may even get a lake trip in before the weather gets too cold.

Michael
