Hello All-   I just got my hands on a Doral 250SC 1998 with a 5.7L Merc, Bravo III outdrive with 300 hours on it.  Boat is in beautiful condition and runs great.  It has trim tabs and outdrive trim as well as an aftermarket wing and dual stainless props.

The problem occurs when adding power.  The boat rolls violently one way or another in all speed regimes.  I can control it a bit if I add the power slowly but I have to be all over the bow levelers.  Steering (specifically turning left is almost impossible at half throttle because the boat tens to roll to the right when commanding a left turn.  I always start with the trim tabs in full bow up position and the outdrive trim full down.  Something is horribly wrong and I don't know where to start.  Bow levelers appear to work as they do operate when commanded.

I welcome any and all ideas and thanks in advance for the help.

Regards,

Matt in Rochester, NY

I would say one of the few things that will cause eratic handing when adding speed is the trim tabs down.  Maybe for some mechanical reason they are "falling down" or one is and appear to be up or level when you are at dock. It is quite dangerous to use much trim tab correction at high speed.  Or somehow play in the steering linkage? but you would probably see symptoms of that at any speed.

Thanks Roger,

I have been receiving some input from others regarding the after-market hydrofoil that the previous owner installed.  They say get rid of that thing and check the operation of the trim tabs and steering.  Going to see how that works.  Thanks for the help.

Regards,

Matt
