I have 1979 Carcer Santa Cruz with fixxed trim tabs, the hinge is rusted away. I have one off now and was going to replace the hinge. But I was wondering how the boat would handle if I left them both off. I know the bow would lift up but how will it be on turning and Control ?

You propose to take one or both tabs off?

Trim tabs are generally responsible for trimming the boat; both port to starboard, and the front-to-rear. And with some boats, if they are a bit underpowered, they assist in getting the boat up on plane.

I would think that as a minimum, your fuel mileage would suffer if you removed the tabs as you could not trim the boat for the most efficient angle.

Carver would not have put them on unless they were needed. If you want to improve them that's one thing but I would not remove them. They may be needed for stability in rough seas? Or if the boat is overloaded? Or any one of a hundred reasons? You won't know untill you need them? IMHO, you're going in the wrong direction.
