I have a 1982 30' Californian "trawler".  I bought it in December 2005, but haven't had a chance to use it much, though I've made a few important upgrades.  The boat also had some roof-leaking problems, on one side, when I bought it......fixed it.....not it's showing  up on the other side.

I will be bringing the boat up to Rhode Island from Deale MD early in the summer, perhaps earlier.   I'm an old guy with a lifetime in the boat business, so this will be no "extreme adventure" for me, but it will sure be interesting to see how she handles in a seaway.  She's high and shallow, so I will be exercising some caution if the weather gets snotty.  I was living aboard a 30' sailboat when I saw her and was struck by the big galley, big head and big windows.  I had lived aboard a 46' Chris-Craft houseboat for 15 years, winter and summer, on the Connecticut River, and her "houseboat" features were very attractive to me at the time.  Now I live ashore in Rhode Island and I think she will be perfect for Narragansett Bay, with occasional trips out to Block Island, the Elizabeth Islands and Martha's Vineyard.

Will be happy to share my experiences with you. And I would like to make contact with other owners of these small trawlers.  Mine was built in 1981 and is hull number 25, with a JCM prefix.   I actually ran down Mr. Marshall when I first got the boat.  In that conversation, he mentioned that this model was a development of a 29'-er they had built before that.  Hull #22 was owned in Rhode Island by a friend of mine until at least a couple of years ago. Look forward to getting an "information exchange" going on these interesting boats......and, especially, to locating other C-30's (?and 29's?) to see what's going on...happy cruisinhg..........Harris

I am currently in the market for a Californian 30 for use in Narragansett Bay in RI.  I saw one with a 200 turbo Perkins.  Looks like the boat suited for us.  I am a former sail boater and now converting to a Trawler.

Does this one hold up well?  Is it noisy?  What problems have you seen as an owner?
How does it hold up to weather?
