Hi everyone

I am new to the forum and new to Thompson boats, just purchased a daytona 310 and was wondering if anyone can tell me if I need to caulk between the molded swim platform and the hull ( side ) as the caulking would take away fro mthe appearance but I am worried about water getting in.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated

can you provide a picture of the area you are referring to?

if it's like mine...i don't think it's a crucial spot. it simply ends up in the bilge area. however....i knew a guy that had a 34 that sunk in the slip because the swim platform somehow got hung up under the dock on a rising tide, then took on water through that seam. (maybe bilge pump was not working properly??)

Thanks for the response, the area is if you are standing beside the boat on the dock and look straight where the swim platform molds up to the side of the boat - right after the lettering Thompson you can see the joint-there is caulking there now but really messy looking and i am thinking take it off and leave the small space open as it would be cleaner looking,, i have attached a photo  to give you an idea.

i don't think that is a factory platform.....without knowing how it is installed i can't give you much advice about it.

check out the inside behind the engines on the transom. see if you see some "bolts/nuts" that seam to be after-thoughts.....i would assume that it is simply thru-bolted on???

maybe get some close-up pics??...

Thanks,, I looked inside the transom, don't see any bolts through it. Apparently the swim platform is factory installed on these models. I attached a closer picture so maybe you could see better-- you can see the line of white silicone going down the side.

I can't get a closer picture than this yet,, I just purchased the boat and it it is only being delivered to me this weekend.

Thanks Moosin` Around,, I did just that and it looks clean, she will stay like that now.

Your boat is really something, great job with the renovations. I just started my renovations and hope it looks as good as your does.

What did you use on the teak, is it Ceratol or Teak oil. I was thinking of stripping it right down and using a teak colored wood stain, more uniform and it will blend nicely with the interior teak which is already redone.
