I am looking for info on the type of trailer for trailering our Carver Voyager. It weighs 10,300 lbs. and has a 11'3" beam. We don't plan on taking the boat very far but it would be nice to store it on the trailer. I also would like to know if anyone has been able to order replacement covers on the cushions on the bridge because the ones we recently have had recovered don't look as nice as the originals. Any info would be appreciated.

Just like you, I don't like the design of our cushion covers. I would like to replace it but I can't find good cushion covers that would fit on our boat. I would just give an update if I would find the things that we are looking for.

I have a 89 Carver Voyager we bought last spring. It sets on a 3 axle trailer rated around 13000 lbs.

We towed it from Salt Lake City to Durango CO with a one ton dually.

Wide load permits are needed.

If your ramps are like ours, a four wheel drive is also needed.

I will be getting all the cushions redone by a local shop that specializes in marine.

I have an 1988 28 Voyager. I bought it in 1991 and it came with a triple axle trailer that looks somewhat similar to the one pictured above in this thread.

My trailer is constructed of 6" steel I-beams and appears to be custom build for the boat. There are no markings on the trailer to signify manufacturer.

I have had the boat towed several times on the trailer but mostly the trailer stays in the boat yard and I use it as a cradle with wheels for winter storage.

You really want a substantial truck to tow this package. Personally, I wouldn't want to be towing it any distance and I wouldn't want to be dealing with boat ramps, either going in or going out with this setup.

I am having my original bridge cushions redone over this winter.

New foam, new vinyl. I'm going with an egg shell colored vinyl (same color as the fiberglass) and I found a shop that has some with the quilted finish that is the same as our original cushions.

I like the quilted look much better than a plain vinyl look.

The only changes from the original cushions I am having done are these:

1) Replacing the 4" foam in the stbd side and rear backrests with 3" foam to make them a little less boxy and provide a bit more seat depth.

2) Adding a third attachment loop for the stbd side back rest so that it doesn't sag down toward the back.

3) Adding some non-stretching high strength material (I forget the name of it) in the material loops that hold the backrests to the bridge rails so they don't stretch like the original ones did.

I'm having 7 cushions done. (helm seat, helm backrest, 2 stbd side cushions, back cushion, stbd backrest, rear backrest).

Price I negotiated in Oct 2009 with one of the local canvas shops who did my bridge enclosure: $1,546 Canadian.
