Anybody have an idea what causes this? The drive is not trimmed. Back to Top    p5surf "Seaman Recruit" Joined: July 16 2007 Posts: 3 Posted: July 10 2009 at 09:43 | IP Logged Porposing is common in all boating and usually indicates that the thrust from the engine is not parallel to the line of travel.   If your thrust is pointed downward, even by a slim margin, it will cause the bow to ride up, conversely if the thrust is pointed upward, the bow will dig in. Both circumstances will cause porposing in different conditions. The trick is to first (while motionless) create an even distribution of weight around the boat. Next, once underway, adjust the trim using the trim/tilt of the engine settings, and then align the trim tabs (if equipped) to assist. You may also want to check the bottom of your hull to be sure there are no barnacles, etc... growing on the bottom. Even a slight growth of alge can cause variation in your planing. Furthermore, if your boat is equipped with duel engines, both engines must be trimmed in alignment. I hope this helps get you started in your journey. Safe boating! p5surf Back to Top
