Got a surprise the other day as I was adding extra bonding wire to my rudder posts. I had to remove the rudder plates to access the rudder tiller arms. I removed the collar on top of the rudder posts, then the four lag bolts that hold the plates in place. The new rudder bearings (bushings) I installed last summer were corroded. They were supposed to be an alloy that was resistant to corossion. The plates are stainless, the rudders bronze. Any way, I ran an 8 gauge wire from each tiller arm to the ss plates, and from there to the copper bondtng strip that runs throughout the boat. Instead of using metal bushings again, I bought nylon bushings impregnated with molylube, and are supposed to be self lubricating. That should take care of that problem. Steering feels nice and smooth. And for once everthing went together pretty easy. There is no room in the lazarett because the fuel tanks are only about 1 1/2 feet en front of the transom. No way I can get down there. So I bring down a portable compresser and use an air tool to remove the bolts, while hanging upsidedown. The factory plates were plain steel with no bearings. Real smart.
