Author Message Prev Topic | Next Topic  MATTYJIVS "Seaman Recruit" Joined: September 26 2008 Posts: 2 Posted: September 26 2008 at 14:40 | IP Logged I HAVE A 251 CATALINA 1976   307 W/PARAGON TRANS SHE GOES INTO REVERSE BUT SLIPS WHEN I GIVE HER GAS,FORWARD IS GREAT,ANY INPUT WOULD BE GREAT THANKS __________________ MATTYJIVS 1976 CATALINA 251 Back to Top    boatman66 "Commander" Joined: August 19 2007 Posts: 1123 Posted: September 27 2008 at 09:44 | IP Logged First,check the fluid level,if okay move on to the shifter cable,it may be out of adjustment and not engaging the reverse selection all the way..the best way to do this if by yourself is to engagae the shifter to reverse (engine not on )disconnect the cable at the trans shifter lever,and see if the lever moves futher to the reverse position,if it does,and it may not be much movement,the cable needs tuning.if not the cable, your problem may be in the shift lever itself not going all the way into reverse. I seriously doubt that the trans itself is the problem it may be,but exhaust all other potential areas first.there are also adjustments to the cables on the shifter itself look for them.
