1980 266 SANTA CRUZ.

Redoing the rudder due the bottom jumping up against it. The rudder is solid bronze with a 1-1/4" SS shaft. Weight ~56 lbs. Described as a "High Speed" type with flange by various rudder manufacturers. Measures 14" tall by 12" wide. Guy at the marine repair shop in Tampa thinks its awlful big for my boat. Don't know if its the original or not. Evidence that its been worked on before. I'm about the fourth ower.  Was curious if any similar sized Santa Cruz owners could shed some light on this as to size/weight.

TIA, Dave

I have no specific info on the rudder size but my opinion would be that smaller will decrease manuverability.

Out':

Yes, size does matter. For hydrodynamic maneuverability. It's more the boat size to rudder weight ratio that struck me.  As they say around here "dang near busted a nad liften it"

Thanks for the quick reply.
