19 Foot Run About - Mercruser I/O

It appears to be pretty difficult to pull the steering cable out through the factory installed hangers.  Probably even harder to fish the new cable back through from the helm to the transom.  Probably was hung there at the factory before the top of the hull was joined with the bottom hull.

Have any of you ever cut the factory hangers and dropped the cables out from under the inside  freeboard (gunwales)?  Then rigged new hangers?
