Dave,
You might spot check an area using hydrogen peroxide, no phosphates in that chemical mixture. Mildew loves phosphates, it can eat them and grow worse, most bleach, detergents, etc. contain those, so that might make the problem worse latter on. I believe simple green products are "ammoniated" which basically means what it sounds like, made from ammonia, that's cool, just don't mix with or use around something that contains bleach, since that would release a nasty gas.
Really, you've got 2 and a half choices, 1-ammonia, 2-bleach, or 2 1/2- hydrogen peroxide, which is really another oxidizer like bleach, (hence the 1/2) it's just somewhat safer to work with and degrades quickly, and much friendlier to the ocean/water.
I have read, but can't personally confirm, that you can treat clean marine fabric against mildew by soaking in a 50% vinegar solution for 20 minutes or so. Just fyi- proceed with caution!
Just my 2-cents worth, but I'm no expert in this regard. Just throwing out ideas...Your mileage may vary, objects in mirror are closer than they appear, etc.
