Hi Mates:
As some of you know I am restoring a old 1984 CC 280 and am almost finished with it .This project has been on going for about 18 months and I am ready for it to get done!My question is:
On the transom rails are they  level across or do they arc as the transom does?
The rail was missing when I got the boat and I have made some supports of SS  and  don't know if the rail is level across or has a arc in it.Can you guys help with that? Thanks,Bill
PS Floater and Heavy hang on to the boats long as you can!

Hi Swaneered,

The rail arcs with the transom as in this photo....

this was one of my pre-purchase pictures from Sept 07.

would love to see some pix of the work in progress/finished project when you have the chance.  Is yours a 280 w/ single motor?

Tom

Hi Tom,

Yup, the rail follows the transome curve. I have no info on how CC acomplished this, although steaming the piece to soften it, then screwing it to the post flanges seems likely. Locating the rail screw holes might mean steaming twice- once for screw hole location and countersinking, second for securing. We copied all the rail posts too (to be sure of height) with S.S. tubing and the 30deg. flanges-result was day and night. Still debating replacment of the forward rails...their not exactly top drawer quality from the factory, but they hold together and I havn't hit anything yet that would trash them...knock on wood. BTW- we located our 6 fender racks outboard on the bow rails. Due to the wide tide varience in SF bay, only floating docks are used, eliminating the use of piers sunk in the bottom. This means we never run the risk of smashing the racks on piers and allows for the fenders racks to mounted this way...cool. I guess it really depends on where one is located and type of boat use.

Interesting project.

Roy
