Hello everyone. I thought I'd relate a unique (and expensive) experience I recently had. Some of you may have the same old marine power 350 model k engines that I have in my 331 corinthian. About a year ago I started to loose power in the port engine. The motor Ran fine, but would not run over 3100 rpm. I checked every thing, including a compression check, and every thing was fine. New plugs, rebuilt carb, all to no avail. Each tim I ran it it got worse. At the end it wouldn't run over 2800 rpm. I had our mechanics here at Hinckley look things over and they were stumped also. Then the motor started to run on the warm side. I knew it was time to replace the exhaust risers and elbows. I had replaced the starboard riseres last year. When I removed the risers the eaxaust port(not the water jacket) was completley rusted closed on one side, not alowing the exaust gas to escape on one bank of cylinders. I'm amazed it ran as well as it did. Bought new risers from jerry's marine, almost $800 my cost (10 % over wholesale). Engine runs like new again. Old riser must have had a small leak in the exhaust that slowly rusted shut.
On a lighter note, the wind slacked off enough in s.e. florida on saturday to go fishing with a few friends. 10 miles off shore got 4 dolphin to 24 lbs. and a 43 lb. wahoo in 300 feet of water. Not bad. Tight lines and cold beer, Capt. Heavy
