Personally, I would get an Egg that is 1978 or newer.  that was the first year the boat was 100% fiberglass...at least in the 33' size.  The 1974 is glass hull and wood superstructure.  Thankfully, egg used decent wood but still, even on my 1976 33', there have been some soft spots needing repair. 

You're better off getting a newer boat with blown motors to keep costs down.  Remanufactured longblocks run about $1500-$2000 each plus installation.  You'll spend at about that much in time and materials redoing rotted wood on the 1974 and it will never look exactly as it did when new.

Comparing the ride between the eggs of this era is kinda hard to do.  Different motors means different props, diff weights etc.   But, all things being equal, the 33' was a sweet spot for egg.  Wide boat, real heavy and takes the chop real well.  I cant give you much info on the other sizes.
