Hi all,

I haven't seen any activity on this forum in quite a while.  Anyway my current problem involves reports at Prestone antifreeze is bad for my marine engine.

Has anyone heard/read anything about Prestone Extended Life coolant/antifreeze being bad for our marine engines. I just finished rebuilding one of my heat exchangers and fill the cooling system with 50% Prestone and now a friend says he read something so negative that he drained the Prestone out and put in some much more expensive stuff.  My problem is, he doesn't remember what the problem was reported to be and I find it hard to believe that this stuff can be bad.  What do you know?  Anyone?

No one on this forum had any input on the subject of bad coolant.  I found out elsewhere that the yellow Prestone extended life coolant isn't meant for real diesels.  Something about not being Heavy Duty.  One source said that I should have bought the Black bottle of Prestone extended life coolant.  Well, I've never seen any of that, have you?  I ended up with Rotella ELC.  I had a deal with Jamestown Distributors where by my next order was shipping free, so I purchased the coolant.  Now my problem is I didn't buy enough and I haven't been able to purchase any locally.  One would think that with all the truck stops and tractor dealers around (let alone marine suppliers) that I could walk in and buy four gallons of (Shell) 50/50 Rotella ELC.  But, so far no such luck.
