I have a 1990 48' Californian and would like to know how the overboard discharge works. I have had the boat for 3 years and never used it but think it would be good to know how it should operate. I am close to the ocean so it is something I could use if I needed to.

I don't know if your Californian is set up like mine. I have a 1977 42' LRC. The original pump out equipment is located to the starboard of the engine access in the forward stateroom. There is a lever valve and an on/off switch for the pump. There is also a back up hand pump.

I installed a sender and meter for the holding tank status at my lower helm station along with the pump on/off switch, so I do not have to go to the engine room to discharge the tank contents.

Hope this helps.

Richard,

Thanks for your reply. sorry it took so long to get back to you but my post was so old I forgot my password.

Unfortuntaely my discharge system is different. I do not have a back up hand pump and my thru hull discharge is in the engine compartment behind the port engine and the on/off is in the salon in the electricial panel.

Sounds like you have a better and easier system to use.

Thanks,

Dale
