Hello All,

I have recently repaired one of my heat exchangers.  I will detail that project at another time, if anyone is interested.

In the process of repairing the exchanger (SenDure 3281-4-7) I was appling a coat of high temp paint and noticed that other than two shinny spots where it mounts to the engine (Detroit Diesel 8.2L), there is no electrical connection -- no bonding.  I was thinking of adding a wire to the system as is done on my sea water strainers, but then I thought about the fact that there was none originally.  Now I'm not sure what to do.  Should the heat exchanger be bonded?

Dave,  Since the heat exchanger is attached to the engine by the two matalic spots it should be automatically bonded to the engine.  Be sure that you haven't painted over these areas.  It's also a simple check with a ohm meter, to put your mind at ease check with the test leads from the heat exchanger to the engine, sea strainer, etc.

Thanks Ron,  I'll take that as a "yes".  I am not comfortable with the bear (paintless) spots on the mounting tabs, so I was going to include a bonding wire just to be sure, and since the exchanger is off and in my shop I can make that addition easily.
