We have a 1989 36 Aft Cabin Carver with Merc engines.  One of our water temp guages is not working.  We've replaced the guage, installed all new wiring on both the bridge and lower station guages.  We've installed a new iginition switch and have even checked the guages off the other motor and found them to read the water temp in that motor.

I'm looking for a solution.  I'm thinking that the sensor may be bad...although I was told a new one was installed.  Ideas?  Thanks...my temperature is rising over this problem.  Mo Bo'T Lake of the Ozarks.

If you proved that the new guage works off the other motor by switching the wires at the sensor, then you have also proved that the sensor is bad.

If you switched the wires at the helm station, then it could be the sensor or the wiring.

To prove it is the sensor, just switch the sensors around.  I have purchased defective new parts, so yes the "new" sensor could be bad.

Of course if you have a multi meter, just check the ohms resistance across the sensor as the temp rises.
