I hope to be purchasing a 1977 model 2-27 this weekend. When the
surveyor and I looked into the bilge, where the ice box drains, we
drained it with about 6 " of standing water there. No smell, did not
seem to be a problem. I have seen a few thru hull drains, i.e., Catalina
30 types, where one of the sinks seemed to back up if the thru hull cock
was left open. Try looking at the Catalina thru hull literature.

Hope this might be of interest.

Hi: I did buy the Cal 2-27 and and enjoyed the heck out of it. The ice
box drains into the bilge, and has been no problem. However, the ice
box needs a lot more insulation. Will be looking at drilling two holes in
each side, and squirting expanding foam into each hole. Will consider
adding some insulation on the ice box lid with epoxy and woven
fiberglass. My friend has a Catalina 27, added foam, and extended his
coldness from 1-2 days to 5 to 6 days, with cubed ice. California Delta
temp. in Stockton hit about the 110-112 degrese mark yesterday.
