We own a CD 36 and would be glad to respond to any questions about the boat or related topics. "Ariel" is a 1979 model, hull #7. We are the third owners and have owned her for 5 years. She is, to our minds, the perfect boat for us and we plan to keep her in the family for many years (and many generations) to come. We try to keep her original and simple, but upgrade consistent with that philosophy. For instance, we kept the original alcohol stove, no mechanical or electrical refrigeration, no air conditioning, no roller furling, but we added radar, GPS, midship cleats, deck washdown pump, etc. We sail Lake Michigan.
I have been sailing about 40 years (wow, am I getting old!), and my wife and two sons have joined me aboard and enjoy it. We have cruised the Florida Keys, California coast, Puget Sound, British Virgin Islands, and spent lots of time sailing San Francisco Bay. Along the way, I made a San Francisco to Hawaii to San Francisco crossing (in a Westsail 32), skippered a 70-foot catamaran all around the Pacific islands of Micronesia, and earned my USCG Master's License. Now we are very happy to be exploring Lake Michigan. When we tire of that we will move on to the rest of the Great Lakes.
If I can answer any questions about the CD36, let me know. Maybe it will serve at least until Jack Hornor posts his review.
