Okay first off we are new to boating...

we are looking at the 250 sc or 270sc 1999-2005

Does water cooled pose any problems if  our primary use will be in the ocean, we live on Vancouver Island BC?

Also one of the boats we are considering has anti freeze cooling?

one last question:

Can a generator be added after?

Thanks all!

We owned a 2001 270SC for six years and traded up to an Intrigue this year. It was a great boat. We had a seawater cooled 7.4 Merc in ours. We ran in the Chesapeake bay where the water is brackish. If your primary use is going to be the ocean, I would strongly recommend a Mercruiser Horizon engine. The Horizon is closed cooling, meaning the water in the engine is antifreeze and circulates through a heat exchanger. The heat exchanger and manifolds are still seawater cooled. If you keep your boat on a lift or high and dry storage, a flush kit would make a great addition to keep the heat exchanger and manifolds in good shape. There is also an aftermarket Neutra-salt system that Doral is installing on newer boats.

A friend of ours managed to squeeze a Westerbeke generator on his boat. (www.westerbeke.com) It did however cause a slight weight distribution issue which resulted in a slight list to one side. It is however possible.

Hope this helps. For more helpful Doral info visit www.doralowners.com
