I want to upgrade my GPS from an old Garmin 128 to a newer version.  Maybe the Garmin 545 Chartplotter.

My GPS is connected to my Autohelm 3000 via a Seatalk interface box, and it works well.

Does anyone have the newer Garmin equipment talking to a 3000 Autopilot?   I guess I'm worried that the newer version 3.0 of NMEA 183 may not be backward compatible to older versions, like 1.5. via the Seatalk box.
