My wife and I are going to be buying our first boat.  We are thinking about the 185 with the upgrade 190HP but after reading another post about the 175 135HP I'm wondering if the 190 is overkill.  What do you think?  Any opinions would be greatly appreciated.

started with the 185 and after 2 years went to the 210 cuddy and now want to go to the 245, depending on where and how you boat. go big and be happy or start small and keep getting bigger. This will be our last upgrade do to the fact I want to stay trailerable.

We bought a 185 last year with the Merc 3.0/135 hp engine.  It will do 40+ with the 2 of us on board.  In 1 year's time (minus winter) we've probobaly put 100+ hours on her.  So far so good.  We use it mostly to run anound and be social with other boaters, and for tubing.  If you plan on wake boarding or sking with more than one person in the water, you might want the bigger engine.

I have to say it's a nice starter boat.  We've learned a lot with it.  And there's a lot to learn about Lake St. Clair.

Thanks for the input.  We've have the boat for 2 months now.  We got the 185XT that has the 190HP and the wakeboard tower.  Its been a lot of fun and has plenty of power for what we've been doing.  We live in Washington State right on the Puget Sound so its a lot of salt water exposure.  I've learned to be really diligent about cleaning it up.

Thanks again.
