This is my first post so please be kind. I recently purchased a project boat- a 1974 Wellcraft 185. It has two fuel fills and an on-off-on switch on the dash. How does this work? Does the switch actually select a tank to feed the engine? Or does it just select a tank to show fuel quantity in that tank? Are both tanks feeding the engine at all times? If not - how do I switch tanks? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Ed.
Four days later- and I can answer my own question. After removing both rear seats AND the support structure for those seats I was able to use a mirror and search the black hole area above and behind the bilge blower and vent hoses. There, mounted to the underside of the deck at the transom, are two valves feeding a "T" which goes right to the fuel pump. Once you know where they are you only have to remove the port seat back cushion in order to blindly position the valves. POOR engineering. For a long time I believed that planes should be designed by the people that have to work on them- OR they should, at least, be consulted! Now I'll extend that to boats, too. Thanks, this problem solved. Ed.
