My wife and I are very seriously considering the purchase of an 07 Chaparral 290 this weekend from dealer stock.  I am looking for current owners to give their opinions and dislikes about that specific boat.  Thanks in advance for all of your input!

I don't have a 290, but, my Chaparral has been great.  Check out your local dealer as well.  If they are a high quality dealer, then you should be happy with your purchase.

Good luck.

I love my 05' Chap 290, and I agred that the dealer plays an important part with your Chaparral experience.  Make sure they will support you well after the sale.

Where are you going to be boating, and what type of boating will you be doing?

We are avid users and we will boat as we currently do with our 27 footer, which is in Lake Michigan, the Ozarks, various Kentucky lakes, the Ohio & Mississippi rivers and the Gulf of Mexico.  We will likely continue to use this as a day-boat as we generally slip the boat overnight and stay in condos/hotels. We would love to hear specific likes and dislikes from people that have the boat before we make our final decision.

We bought our Chap 290 at the NYC Boat Show in 2005. Absoulutely love the boat. It is darn near perfect for two 'getting-past-middle-age' people. Put radar on her this past season for more safety while cruising. We boat on the Hudson River and hopefully will be able to do more of Long Island Sound in the years ahead. The canvas needed some re-engineering (rain water entry) but I think they have addressed this in the newer models. I can't say anything negative about the boat or our dealer. We are looking ahead to our third full year of ownership and nore extended cruising now that we are retired. Best of luck to you. Of course I am biased, but I think you are looking at one of the better manufacturers of express cruisers.

Little late on the response, but have to agree with JohnH....we purchased an '05 290 in May of last year. Coming up on 1 year of ownership and absolutely love the boat!

No major problems to report....a few minor issues here and there, but that's to be expected. The boat had only 40 hours on it when purchased so some of the bugs hadn't been worked out yet.

Curious to hear if you picked it up yet, enjoy.
