Hi all, I'm returning to boating after a 12 year absence. I had a 1969
233 that I loved for it's rugged structure and great ride in sloppy
conditions. The Boat I just bought is a 1977 233 with twin 165
mercruisers. This is my first boat with Mercs, (my 69 had an OMC
small block chevy stringer drive. YIKES.) My question is ,Although
this boat has been maintained to the max, (same owner since new
and this was his baby.) The engines and drives are orignial. I looked
into remanufactured long blocks and they are no problem. The SE106
aftermarket drives look good to me too. What should I do with the
transom assemblies? Should I look for some more current rebuilt
alpha 1's Gen 1 , or look into getting the old ones rebuilt? The
engines and drives are actually out of a 1979 boat. This boat
originally came with troublesome 470's. I beleive they call these
mercruiser type 1. This is another area very confusing to me. Alot of
guys with the same era packages call them alpha 1's. Any
enlightenment on the subject would be appreciated.
