Greetings all.

My 2004 Monti is pre-wired for a windlass, but did not come with one.  I would like to install one this spring as I wait for the ice to get off the lake!

Which model would be the easiest to install and "plug in".  My first thought is the model that the factory would install.

Is it this easy?

Brian,

    Very easy to do. Open up your anchor locker and you will see the wires zip tied up inside. They are obviously not connected to anything. Now, as far as a windlass, Genius or Genie makes a below deck windlass. The smallest one they have. A maxwell will work too. SImply mount the windlass with the template and backing plate, mount your switch and find your power. The circuit breaker will determine the amount of power you will need. Typically, its not wired to the igniton system, rather straight to a live block or breaker.

P.S. Did you used to own a Sea Ray 215 Express Cruiser?

Yes, we owned a 225 Weekender in the summer of 2005.  Spent so much time on it and many more nights than expected....it was time to move up!  How did you know about our Sea Ray?  Had I contacted you?  Been talking with your So. Burlington counterparts?  They reportedly sold it to some very happy customers!

Windlass:  At the anchor rode locker, the wires certainly are there and they are connected to two three-prong plugs mounted in the hull, in the flat well-area, ready to be plugged into from the outside.  The dash has the windlass rocker switch in place and when viewed from behind, it is all wired up.  Does this change your reply?  Do you expect that the wires at the locker are "hot"?

Wires at the locker should not be hot. The breaker may be disconnected behind the dash, but then again, I have been wrong before. Those three prong plugs are for the windlass controls. SHould be a fairly straightforward installation. As for the sea ray, you talked to one of my salesman, Phil about trading it in at the time. I dont know fully what went on, I didnt talk to him about it, but my guess is that we could not make the numbers work? lol. I hope you will give us a chance in the future to help you with your Doral experience and maybe become a part of our family.

You and yours did a fine job helping a phone customer from a long ways away!

We never talked too hard about numbers.  My trade didn't interest you too much, though.  We've had great luck with the Marine Collection and if there was ever a mid-season problem, we need to have the work done yesterday!!   You guys are almost  4 hours (not towing) south of us.

However, my daydreams drift to a new-to-us Elegante or Intrigue....  Where's that money tree??
