Forgot to mention this one.  I am having a new main sail made.  THis is a question for cruisers or other sailmakers.  I am planning on cruising and wondered about going with a loose fitted foot on the main or hanked on to boom.  SInce I live on Buzzards Bay in Ma I aseem to be always running with at least one reef and feel an attached foot is the better way to go.

THanks, Jack

Let me dig back on this one. Its been a long time since I owned a sailboat. However I do have a few bermuda races under my belt. Anywho... A boom fitted foot will always be a better sail and much longer lasting simply because it will not luff as hard as a loose sail. Keep in mind a Luff is never a good thing so why loosen the pouch of the sail anymore?

Go with the hanked boom and I think you will be happy.

BTW, wrong area to post in , this is for Doral Powerboat owners. However you are welcome to stay!.

Cheers,
NHDORAl
