Bob. For info on Marine Traders go to MTOA Marine Trawler (formerly Trader)owners Association. WWW.MTOA.net. Flybridge deck leaks were a big problem. The teak deck leaked and the non marine underlayment turns to mush. These boats are cheap for a reason as they have a whole host of problems. Hope you can find a boat that a previous owner has reworked.Dave
Thanks for the reply. From what I found out they say that the pre "85" had the problem. The MT I'm looking at is a "87" and doesn't have have teak decks. any other info?
Bob. The recommendation to check out MTOA still stands! The many Marine trader problems are all documented and indexed on a CD. MTOA is a group of Boat owners about 1200 strong, a very active bunch and very helpful. Annother big problem was drop center BW transmissions. Dave 1291
We are recent purchaser's (this June) of a 1989 MT 34 Europa - Flybridge has non-skid, lower decks are teak. Thoroughly surveyed by the same surveyor that the previous owner has used twice before. Most recommendations had been fixed. No substitute for thorough survey! Watching a few soft spots for water intrusion, but not serious at present. Look especially hard at deck fittings for fuel and water. Most tank rot occurs because of water leakage through these fittings - the water sits then on top of the tank.
