First of all, I would like to suggest creating an forum group for engines too. I couldn't find any forums specific to Mercury so I'm posting this under Sea Ray.
I have a 1990 SeaRay 180OB with a 135 Mercury "Black Max" all purchased new. The engine has never really given me much trouble except for a chronic idle problem when the engine is hot. It is most prevelant when the temperatures are above 90F and the water temps are warm. At times the engine cuts off at idle and to start the engine I have to give it a fair amount of throttle. After letting the engine cool a while (15-20 minutes), it's fine.
My Searay dealer has been ineffective in trying to reslove the problem. They replaced the oil level/engine temp warning alarm sensor but it didn't make any difference, and it cost me $400.
Does anyone have suggestions? I keep it well maintained and tuned.
Thanks!!!
