I recently purchased my first boat - '75 Bayliner 2550 Saratoga Hardtop with engine package AQ200B. This is the 350 Chevy/280 Volvo. I'm having problems finding parts for the engine. Volvo says this engine/outdrive package went into my boat in '74 thru '76. The previous owner let the block freeze/crack, replacing it with a short block but neglected to pull the engine ID tag off the front of the old block. The outdrive has the ID tag on it but Volvo says they cannot cross reference it with the engine. Other than giving me the names of parts dealers, Volvo has been completely unhelpful. I contacted the parts suppliers but without exception they all want the engine ID number, period!!Would it be unreasonable for me to ask another owner of an AQ200B to share their engine ID number with me so I can buy parts? Any other suggestions for an avenue to parts would be appreciated.
Not a 2550, but I have a 1988 2650, which seems to be about the same boat. I picked it up last winter for next to nothing ($1,000), and have completely redone the interior. I was able to use it all last summer but towards the fall started having problems. Eventually I wound up with seawater pretty much everywhere in the engine and outdrive (5 of 8 cylinders and throughout the outdrive) and am just about to start the the process of replacing both with remanufactured units. Anybody have any experince with this?
SF Bay Water in the outdrive is usually a cracked drive bellow. water in cylinders could be a head gasket can you remove parts and match them up? alot of places are reluctant to find parts they want to sell you a new drive. I know its across the country but i get all my stuff from Fox Marine in Colchester Vermont i think they have a website. i have a 2550 saratoga flybridge. with a aq225 and it has a 270 outdrive. what parts do you need? i found a link somewhere i think it was volvo's site with a list of older parts. i'll look around. got mine for 5,000 but interior was mint and everything worked. Fresh water vs. salt i guess and the fact we only have 6 month season up here. good luck and i will see what i can find.
