Good day to all,

Just checking on other 1988 Gran Sport owners and any major issues you may have encountered. So far we are very pleased with the performance of this model and size Wellcraft.

I have an 87 and love it.  What size props are you using?  I went up (in pitch) from 17 to 19 and the boat performs much better.  With the trim tabs down I cruise at about 2300 RPM where I was closer to 2800 before.  The speed is about 16 knots (18 mph) and my 454's are burning about 12gph each.  at 3200 RPM I burn about 17gph each.  With the new props the boat still planes very fast, I am considering going to 21's over the winter.  For whatever it is worth this is all in fresh water (Lake Huron).

Good to know when you increased your pitch you got better perfomance and mileage. Looks like a winter project for next season.  Thanks for the info.

Do not get caught putting WD 40 on your engines, if outboard or inboard,  inboard ends up in the bilge and then overboard via the bilge pump, or drain out.

WD 40 is a pollutent, and EPA is hitting hard on oil pollution on the water ways.

WD 40 is a petro base liquid

If marina see it or finds out, you will be not be allowed to launch.

Fines are big $$$$.

As far as RPM to plane speed, add a good set of trim tabs, Bennett is at the top of list, they stand behind their product. My pump went south. it was 3.5 years old and the replace it a $0.0 cost to me, including shipping.

Just a suggestion.

I am looking at a 1987 Gran Sport to purchase. Can anyone give me any tips as to what to look for specificaly? Stringers, motor, etc...

The feul economy is a big one. The above note is very helpful, should I also expect the same milage?

Any tips are helpful.
