When determining the proper size of your letters, note that the lettering height is based on the capital letter. Drop down letters such as lower case g, j, p, q, and y will add about 1/4 of the letter's height to the overall height of your lettering. Lower case letters are generally 2/3 the letter height you selected.

Drop Down Letters: Height ÷ .75 = Overall Height of Lettering

USCG Documented Vessels

The name and hailing port of a recreational vessel must be marked together on some clearly visible exterior part of the hull. All markings must be at least four inches in height, made in clearly legible letters of the Latin alphabet, Arabic or Roman numerals. The "hailing port" must include both a place and a State or Territory in the United States. The state may be abbreviated.
