Fields Cut Shoaling Reminder:
There is shoaling directly in the middle of the Intracoastal Waterway in Fields Cut and is blocking 3/4 of the waterway and poses a serious hazard to navigation during low-tide. A depth of 2ft has been reported in approximate position 32-05.185N/080-56.022W. Fields Cut Temp LB 48A has been established in position 32-05-10.319N/080-56-00.740W. Great Bridge Lock to Close for Three Days:
The Great Bridge Lock (36.723681°-76.247636°), located in Chesapeake, Virginia will be closed to navigation between the hours of 7:00 am and 7:00 pm for 3 days from 18 – 20 November, 2014. The Albemarle and Chesapeake Canal, Route 1 of the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway, will be closed to through vessel traffic during the time period. Great Bridge "Free Dock", No Dockage:
Flint Construction Company has commenced demolition and reconstruction work at the City of Chesapeake Pier in the Chesapeake and Albemarle Canal in the vicinity of the Great Bridge Locks (36.723681°-76.247636°). Work is expected to take place from 7:00 am to 5:00 pm daily Monday through Saturday, with a completion date of 24 November, 2014. The crane barge can be contacted on Channels 13 and 16 VHF-FM. The U.S. Coast Guard August 2014 Navigation Rules and Regulations Handbook has replaced the U.S. Coast Guard Commandant Instruction Navigation Rules, International-Inland (COMDTINST M16672.2D). Dominion Virginia Power has submitted a permit application for the construction and operation of Virginia Offshore Wind Technology Advancement Project (VOWTAP). The hurricane season extends from June 1st through November 30th. Hurricanes can cause excessive damage to vessels and loss of life. To minimize these dangers, the following precautions should be taken by all mariners before getting underway during the hurricane season:
