Still Fishing and Working

By SChaconas - Published December 12, 2013 - Viewed 1675 times

This time of the year, weather plays a big role in fishing on the Potomac. Windy conditions can either dictate fishing locations or keep you off the water altogether. Last week we were able to hit the water a couple of days. Fish are moving around transitioning from shallow grass flats as the hydrilla continues to die off. Most of the plants are dead, but stalks and stems still offer some cover for fish as the water is in the upper 40s. Fish were in areas that had grass with hard edges near deeper water. Slowly crawled crankbaits produced along with small soft plastics. Expect next week to be similar with the addition of Silver Buddy blade baits to the bait selection.

The rest of the week I was catching up on articles and taking photos. But I did find time to go over 20 spinning combos I use for my clients. I cleaned the rods and reels and added a few drops of oil to the roller bearings. They are now stored for the winter, except the ones I will be using. I replaced a couple of older reels with new ones and checked the line. I use braid on all of my client reels, and most of it is still good for next season as I monitor this daily during the season. Next week I'll start to check out lures, replacing some, changing hooks and ordering new ones.

I also start doing seminars. I visited with a high school bass club and started with my Fishing Triangle and then got specific with lures and tackle. I enjoy sharing all of the nitty gritty with those wanting to hear! It really shortens the learning curve for them.

Take a look at my latest BoatUS DIY column…Get that sinking feeling! Making a weighted wacky rig hook! http://www.boatus.com/angler/DIY-weighting-a-wacky.asp

Until next time, see you on the water.
WEAR a PFD!
