From the Fifth District Bridge Branch:

SUBJ: SCHEDULED BROADCAST NOTICE TO MARINERS HRD BNM 514-12 VA - ATLANTIC INTRACOASTAL WATERWAY (AIWW) - ELIZABETH RIVER - SOUTHERN BRANCH MARINERS ARE ADVISED THAT THE NORFOLK-PORTSMOUTH BELTLINE RR BRIDGE (AT AIWW MILE 2.6) ACROSS THE SOUTHERN BRANCH OF THE ELIZABETH RIVER BETWEEN PORTSMOUTH AND CHESAPEAKE VA WILL BE CLOSED TO VESSELS REQUIRING AN OPENING ON TUE 18 DEC 2012, FROM 7 AM TO 7 PM, TO EFFECT URGENT CABLE REPAIRS. IN THE CLOSED POSITION TO VESSELS, THE AVAILABLE VERTICAL CLEARANCE IS APPROXIMATELY 6 FEET, ABOVE MHW. MARINERS SHOULD ADJUST THEIR TRANSITS ACCORDINGLY AND CONCERNED TRAFFIC SHOULD CONTACT BELTLINE BRIDGE TENDER ON VHF CHANNEL 13 OR 16.

This will effectively close the Atlantic Intracoastal Waterway for the day.
