Attention Great Lakes Cruisers and Other Boaters Stranded by the Erie Canal Closure:

We have received the following information from Mike Carns who is one of many of the Great Lakes boaters, Great Loopers and others who are unable to pass through the Erie Canal because of its storm related closure. For those interested in taking advantage of this development to ship their boats south via freighter, we forward this information. BoatUS and Mel and Tom Neale neither endorse nor recommend any shipper or shipping company but pass this on to get information out to interested boaters. Check with your insurance company relevant to insurance issues.

There is a cargo ship that will be departing the Montreal area on or about Oct 3, 2011 arriving Palm Brach FL area a couple of weeks later. Space is presently available on this ship for boats wishing to reach Florida on a first come first serve basis. The approximate cost is $500.00 per LOA foot. The possibility of a later ship leaving mid October also exists but has not yet been confirmed. This information is being transmitted to boat owners who have been affected by the closing of the Erie Canal as a result of the storms.

Interested parties should contact Rick Merola at 800-439-4386 e-mail aquamania9@aol.com or Mike Carns at 315-575-8851 e-mail carnsie1@aol.com.
