Hurricane Ike - CAT Field Team Status

By Rick Wilson - Published September 22, 2008 - Viewed 3854 times

Hello again from Houston,

We have had a very productive Monday here in the Field.

The HYC now has a crane at the facility and salvage jobs got started there today.   The general manager at the HYC has been very helpful and I think they have really appreciated all the help from our surveyors.  Fred Wright from North Carolina has been our surveyor on site there.

Jim Wood and Mike McCook have both made contact with the city manager in Baytown where Bayland Park Marina is.  This facility is a city owned facility with floating docks that broke loose from their pilings and are all in a pile near highway 146 at the base of the bridge.  It is our understanding that there are quite a few uninsured (self insured) boats there.  The city is bidding the job to a number of salvors and we are hopeful that a decision will be made there shortly.

David Wiggin was able to sign contracts for salvage jobs on the north side of Clear Lake including our 58 footer that is sitting between 2 houses in Clear Lake Shores.

Bill Ballard and George Mansfield were able to get several boats floated and temporarily staged at the docks at Watergate Marina and ready to be hauled out for our trucks.  Randy Roden also was able to crank out more damage appraisals through the south side of Clear Lake today.

Jonathon Klopman was able to coordinate the salvage and blocking of several boats on Galveston Island to prepare them for transport to the yard.  We continue to locate and tag other boats around the Galveston Area.

In the yard we were able to get operations underway.  We had porta-potties delivered, we arranged for security from 7pm to 7 am, we had 3 boats delivered to the yard and a dumpster should be delivered later in the week. Two of our 3 truckers have arrived today and we should be moving some boats tomorrow.  The third trucker should be here on Tuesday afternoon.

It is my hope that the pace is about to pick up dramatically.  Rob, Trisha, Andrea and Rocky have begun to see an increase in the volume of paperwork for processing of salvage payments and claim settlements and have done a fabulous job of managing this within Workdesk.

Thank you to everyone back at headquarters for all of your support.  Specifically, I have had several compliments from the surveyors regarding the quality of the information being provided in the first reports regarding identification of boats.  This is an excellent improvement over previous storms and we thank everyone taking first reports at PSC, FSC and HQ for their attention to detail in this regard.

Christina, if you could please pass these compliments on to policy service for me I would greatly appreciate it.
