Hurricane Ike - CAT Field Team Status

By Rick Wilson - Published September 15, 2008 - Viewed 4004 times

I wanted to give you an update on the status of Field Team Operations at this time.

We have the following surveyors in route to or on the ground in Houston at the moment: Mike McCook, David Wiggin, Steve Sudol, Bill Ballard, George Mansfield, Jim Wood, Jonathon Klopman, Scot Honeycutt, Ted Lemmond and Fred Wright

We have 14 rooms in Houston near the medical center and Reliant Park.  The 1st surveyors have arrived on scene and the hotel does have our rooms and there is power and water (although spotty internet access).  A big thank you to Brad Sulima, (Manager, BoatUS Travel Division) for arranging all the flights and cars and for finding a hotel specifically one near the medical center so power has been quickly restored to the area.

The claims are flowing in at this time and the reports that we have from the Clear Lake and Galveston areas are not good.  So far we have XXX claims reported in TX.

I just spoke to Bill Ballard who with George Mansfield was able to get down near Clear Lake and made it into a couple of Marinas but could not get over the bridge to the Seabrook side.

            They report the following:

The Watergate Marina is destroyed, boats sunk, piled on shore etc.  10 plus piers just totally ripped apart.   (we show XXX boats there)

The Waterford Marina the marina is ok but most boats there have torn sails and canvas damage.

The Kemah Boardwalk also appear to be ok but most boats have torn sails and canvas damage.  (we show XXX boats there)

We intend to have the surveyors break up tomorrow and fan out to collect information, seek out contacts and resources for salvage as well as seeking out possible storage yard locations.

Bob Misener will be arriving tomorrow evening and then he and I will head out to Texas Wednesday afternoon.

Rob Field, Trisha Cookson, Andrea Means and Rocky Flowers will be handling the claims processing from the offices (Both Alexandria and FSC).  We will manage the file processing in WorkDesk and the surveyors will be forwarding their reports and status updates to us via e-mail into the claims processing queues.

It is still a little sketchy as to the level of access we might have over the next few days but I am hopeful that we can begin to forge those relationships and get the process started.
